01 / Operational problem

The gap between plan and field

Search planning defines where teams need to go. SECTOR is being developed to show what happens next.

SECTOR is intended to bring search areas, team assignments, live positions and actual search coverage together into a common operational picture, helping search managers understand progress while an operation is still underway.

A search plan can look complete on a map while the real search taking place on the ground is much more complex. SECTOR is intended to make this execution phase visible.

02 / Execution sequence

From plan to review

Operational model / Intended workflow
  1. 01

    Plan

Define or import search areas, boundaries and routes.

  2. 02

    Task

Allocate operational areas or tasks to teams and assets.

  3. 03

    Track

Bring live locations and movement into the shared picture.

  4. 04

    Verify

Compare assigned areas with actual movement and visible gaps.

  5. 05

    Review

Adapt the search and retain activity for operational review.

03 / Coverage visibility

See the search, not just the plan.

A defined search area only shows where a team has been tasked. SECTOR is intended to compare that assignment with live movement from the field, helping identify completed areas, coverage gaps and duplicated effort.

04 / System architecture

Designed to connect systems, not replace them.

SECTOR is being developed around the TAK ecosystem with the intention of connecting established mapping, communications and tracking technologies into a common operational environment.

Potential data pathsDifferent networks. One operational picture.

Smartphone GPS, professional radio systems, vehicle gateways, AIS, ADS-B, drones and other data sources can potentially contribute to the same live search picture.

05 / Current development

Active R&D

SECTOR is an ongoing Hall Innovations research and development project exploring how modern communications, geospatial software and operational data can improve the execution of Search & Rescue operations.

SECTOR / Project 01

The search plan is only the beginning.

SECTOR is being developed to provide the operational layer between planning, field teams and command.
